Did I miss a month or two somehow? Did I fall asleep like Rip Van Winkle, and wake up 20 years down the track? Yep, I must have. 'Cos it's May already. We've had the Autumn equinox and Easter, and Mr P.'s birthday and Anzac Day ... Which means Winter is nearly here. I've had to bring out the dressing gown and the Oodie pyjama pants, and my infinity scarves will become de rigueur each day. Yay! I bloomin' love Winter :=)
May is going to be a very busy month for us, with lots of social events and various activities, so I'm girding my loins and taking a deep breath. Mm, what a picture that conjures up ... Now that I am officially the archivist for our local Historical Society, and I'm going to sign up as a transcriber for the National War Memorial, I have even more things to fit in. Retirement is very busy, my friends!
Hope everyone has a fabulous month. And please join in for In My Kitchen - all welcome. Come young, come old, and in between! And wherever you're from; we want to see you here.
In My Kitchen:
|
I bought delicious dried apricots - no chemicals! |
|
and some more Japanese goodies (I go thru so much Kewpie!) |
|
a new Italian bakery has just opened up nearby so I bought this! |
|
a few Tasmanian goodies for Mr P.'s birthday |
|
and a few goodies from our trip away for Mr P.'s birthday |
|
and another book; not a cookbook but an anthology of food writing |
|
I made roast ghee potatoes for cookbook club |
|
I bought this cute kitchen hand towel in Tenterfield |
|
and I ordered this online from Tasmania - I love a spiral-bound book |
|
Mr P. bought me a print from Elke Gill. We love the Northern Rivers area! |
My curveball for this month. I have a couple of Elke's prints already, so when this one came up, Mr P. kindly bought it for me. We were actually heading down there one weekend, so we picked it up from her personally. She is so young and talented!

I love Elke's style -- that's a wonderful print. Everything from your kitchen always looks so delicious. I should never read your posts around lunch time!
ReplyDeleteYes I like Elke's prints too. I have 3 of them now. Thanks Jeanie!
DeleteI do like the look of that Chardonnay vinegar - nom nom
DeleteYes that vinegar is a winner. I've had a bottle before, and it's great.
DeleteRoast ghee potatoes! I'm salivating. That pistachio cream looks amazing and I'd gladly have that on toast any time. I hear you 100x over with the where is April gone sentiment?
ReplyDeleteI'm first this month but I'm actually cheating because it's the afternoon of 30 April in Paris. Gotta get it in while the baby is sleeping :) Have a great month!
those potatoes were delicious! That's the first time i was ever able to make crispy potatoes! I haven't opened the pistachio cream yet; must find some recipes to include it. I was thinking pistachio tart. Thanks so much for joining in this month!!
DeleteGreat to hear that you are now an archivist! And that you have so many new and interesting objects, foods, and books in your kitchen. The anthology sounds good, though maybe the selections are a bit short. (I looked it up on amazon.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting all of us.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks Mae. I love Ella Risbridger's writing so am sure her choice of pieces for the anthology will be fabulous too.
DeleteI love to cook with ghee, lard and tallow :-) Animal fat is GREAT! Absolutely adore that kitchen hand towel, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteI usually cook everything in olive oil but i do like making dumplings with suet which is of course animal fat!
DeleteThat print is fab - I love it! So many delicious goodies in your kitchen this month - your roasties look especially yum! And how cool will it be to be a transcriber for the National War Memorial? Keep us posted. I'm with you - how did it get to be May already? You're cooling down (hopefully for you) and we're supposed to be warming up but the rain has other ideas. Mother Nature seems to have got her knickers in a right knot!
ReplyDeleteOh yes I was so pleased with the roast spuds! Never has been my forte. It is a wee bit cooler atm thank heavens. One of the US bloggers was saying how unseasonally warm it has been in CHicago this year. Weird weather for us all! Have a great May and thanks for joining in.
DeleteSpreadable Pistachio Cream? Be still my beating heart. I'm working my way through the Dinner anthology - dipping in and out as I feel like it. It's a lovely collection.
ReplyDeleteYes am dying to try it. Love Ella Risbridger and Kate Young so am sure the anthology will be fabulous!
DeleteHi Sherry, no idea why that last comment loaded as by anonymous, but the anonymous talking about spreadable pistachio cream and the Dinner anthology is ... wait for it ... me.
ReplyDeleteYes Blogger has its own mysterious ways when it comes to comments. So annoying! I am so looking forward to reading that anthology.
DeleteBeautiful print. Great goodies! I’d get into that pistachio cream with a spoon!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mimi. Can't wait to try the cream. Maybe in a tart ...
DeleteThat book of food writing looks really interesting,
ReplyDeleteYes should be good reading.
DeleteI nearly bought the same pistachio spread in Italy! Happy May to you.
ReplyDeleteTandy | Lavender and Lime https://tandysinclair.com
I'm hoping it's okay tho Lorraine says it's not potent enough :)
DeleteI hear ya, Sherry - how is it May already!? That pistachio cream absolutely caught my eye in this month's post. I bet it would be fantastic used with pastry cream as a croissant filling! Yum!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try it tho I will have to boost the flavour by the sounds of it.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's May already either. There are so many things to love in your IMK post Sherry. I love reading about food, so would love The Dinner Table. Pistachio cream, yum, oh for a taste. Elke Gill's work is fun and she is very talented, I must look her up. I am really interested though that you are the archivist for your Historical Society, and a transcriber for the Australian War Memorial, such an important responsibility. The Librarian and archivist in me still gets excited at the thought of doing that work as well. Have a great month Sherry, and keep well. I'm enjoying the cooler Queensland weather as well.
Yes it is great to be doing this work. I have been doing transcribing on Trove for years but this will be a new thing on the War Memorial.
DeleteI have that pistachio cream and it's good although I want one really strong in pistachio which has to date eluded me.
ReplyDeleteI will blitz up some extra nuts in that case :)
DeleteGO Sherry! You took down the spam!
ReplyDeleteYay! Yes it's so disrespectful. They clearly don't even read my post or give a damn that their posts are not for IMK!!
DeleteYou had me at spreadable pistachio cream! I can't wait to hear what you do with that. It sounds delicious. Sounds like a good month in your kitchen. Have a wonderful May!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori. Looks like May will be a busy one. Have a good one!
DeleteFrom Johanna @ https://gggiraffe.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are enjoying life with some fun experiences - archivist at the historical society sounds interesting - hope you come across some gems. Love the Carabita artwork. I would love to taste that pistachio cream - sounds an interesting addition to desserts and layer cakes. The food writing anthology sounds great. And I would love to see more of the plate for Mr P from Tasmania (happy birthday mr p)
thanks Johanna. The plate? Do you mean the one in the background of the photo? It is by our mate Starr, who is a wonderful painter and ceramicist.
DeleteI always enjoy your in my kitchen posts as you really do have some interesting and different things each month. I'm like you are enjoy spiral bound cookbooks, they are so particle to have open when cooking. Karen (Back Road Journal)
ReplyDeletethank you Karen! Yes spiral bound books are so handy. There's just something so old-fashioned and 'right' about them.
DeleteOooh that pistachio cream looks good.
ReplyDeleteI hope so! Thanks Hena.
DeleteThe "Singing Magpie produce" is really good so full of flavour and I love that it's aussie
ReplyDeleteYes it is really great stuff!
DeleteMaybe some day I will join this group as I always have lots of new things every month, from ingredients, recipes, "kitchen toys." I don't buy art like you do as I don't go to the huge art fair any more that is held every year. But for now I have slowed down with blogging... your kitchen this month is very interesting :)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome to join in Judi. I think a lot of people are slowing down or stopping blogging as YouTube etc seem to be the way to go these days!
DeleteSounds like May is shaping up to be quite the bustling month for you! I love how you've embraced the cozy vibes of winter with your dressing gown and scarves – there's something so comforting about it. Your kitchen adventures sound delightful, from the Japanese goodies to the Tasmanian treats and the new Italian bakery finds. And how sweet of Mr P. to surprise you with a print from Elke Gill – her work must bring such joy to your home.
ReplyDeleteThanks Raymund.
DeleteYou had me with the pistachio cream — oh my, how I love that stuff! But I read on and love The Dinner Bible — what a great read! David (C&L)

ReplyDeletethanks Liz. Ella is a fab writer; can't wait to get stuck in. I mean I know she's the editor in this one but still ...
DeleteI must know how that pistachio cream is! Love the retro towel and one can never ever have too many cookbooks (or artwork)!!! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteYes will make a cheesecake with it soon. I agree - cookbooks and artworks are the go. The house just keeps swelling to fit them all in :)
DeleteHi Sherry I bought the same pistachio spread-it is really good! Combined with nutella in a croissant it is heavenly. Ciao, Cristina
