'Hello friends', as Cherry the English YouTuber I watch now and then, always says at the start of her videos. Well, here we are - the last In My Kitchen for 2024. Mm, did someone wave a magic wand and cast a spell on me? It simply cannot be December! But it is, so on we go.
I know we are all a bit overwhelmed this time of year, so I hope all goes well for you. Enjoy the Christmas rush, my friends. Take care, and see you over the hump! Watch out 2025!

Santa wishes everyone a very merry Christmas and whatever else you do or do not celebrate this time of year, dear friends. And many thanks to all of you who have followed along contributing your posts to In My Kitchen. We appreciate you! :=) Hee hee hee ...
In My Kitchen:
I made more tomato relish! (And it's all gone already!) Gotta make more. |
and lemon cordial with Meyer lemons from our Tassie mates |
and rice pudding with rose petals |
I pickled some red and green chillies |
We stayed up at Hervey Bay for a few nights recently; the kindly manager of the holiday apartments let me pick the chillies from the bush outside Reception. So they came home with us, and I pickled 'em. We actually got a self-tapping roofing screw in our back tyre on the way home (on a Sunday lunchtime), so had to find a motel and stay the night till the tyre shop (?) was open Monday morning. We stayed in an 'interesting' part of town; there were people living on spare blocks of land with tarpaulins as their home. Heaven knows how they showered or went to the loo! Strange times we are living in.
I ordered these online from Mingle - delish! |
I bought this cute little cup for my morning coffee |
and this book by the cook, and cookbook writer Nigel Slater |
Santa is looking a bit worried; maybe he thinks Nigel doesn't believe in him?! Nevermind Santa; WE believe in you.
the curveball! The cutest wee vase made by our friend Nat |
She sells her ceramics under the name Austin Flowers. I have quite a few of her works, including a print which is a stylised portrait of our mate Chainsaw Newton - he of Gelato Bob fame (she is a painter mostly).
Well, that's it for this year's IMK. See you in January! Take care, have fun, eat well and give out lots of hugs!

I agree that the fast-approaching end of the year is startling and a bit uncomfortable. So many unfinished commitments!
ReplyDeleteThanks for continuing to be a great kitchen host here.
Have a great holiday season!
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
thanks Mae. You too!
DeleteIt looks like you found some fun food treats this month. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season!!
ReplyDeletethank you very much Lori. And you too!
DeleteAnother shelter opened here recently for the homeless. It is working well. There are so many homeless these days across Canada.
ReplyDeleteyes it's so sad. There is a lot of help here but i guess some people just fall thru the cracks for whatever reason.
DeleteYou have some fun stuff, Sherry. I love that rice pudding bowl!!
ReplyDeletethanks Angie. It is a cute bowl!
DeleteA big hello, warm hug, thank you for an interesting post and Merry Christmas to you and yours! Here is a seeming Scrooge talking - none of my families have ever celebrated for a variety of reasons - it is actually the time I get all that has not gone done done if that makes sense :)! Must go to Mingle - absolutely LOVE the 'umami everything' mix - isn't that the most overused word amongst cooks these days!!!!! And . . . I very much like the look of your new cup - fun! . . . bestest . . .
ReplyDeletethank you Eha. So nice to have you back again. Have a nice festive season however you celebrate - or not :)
DeleteSuch fun stuff! Isn’t it strange, that people around the world cannot believe that we’re already into December!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is super difficult to believe that the year has just flown by!
DeleteI did not think homelesness would need to be an issue in Australia given how much Government support is available. Could they be living there through choice or drug addiction? It's a common site here sadly.
ReplyDeleteLove your new cup!
Tandy | Lavender and Lime https://tandysinclair.com
yes there is a lot of resources here but some people slip thru - sadly. Who knows the reasons ...
DeleteI have a feeling that holidays in your world will be very delicious! This year has sped by, especially the last three months. Sending joy this season your way!
ReplyDeletethank you Jeanie. Joy to you too.
DeleteHave a great Christmas 🎄 and am looking forward to your next post in 2025! Love those freshly picked and pickled, chillies- yum
ReplyDeletethanks anon. Happy festive season.
DeleteYou have been busy. I love the foodie art you bring back. As for Nigel's new book - I love it! I've been listening to it as well as dipping in and out of the physical book.
ReplyDeletethanks Jo. Yep i love Nigel! happy festives to you.
DeleteSherry, wishing you and your family a most wonderful holiday season. I always enjoy visiting to see what's happening in your kitchen and the beautiful art items you collect. Looking forward to the new year!
ReplyDeletethank you Velva. Happy festives to you.
DeleteMerry Christmas Sherry! Thanks for being our fearless leader and keeping IMK going. One day we should have a giant reunion party at your house! Wouldn't that be a dream? That tiny vase is so adorable, I can imagine a single dandelion in it. My son discovered dandelions recently when we were in St Malo, the unbridled joy of children is one of the gifts of life. I love furikake but it's harder to find here, Stefano always calls it my fish food
ReplyDeletethanks for being part of it this year DoS. Oh yes a party for us all would be so splendid! One day ... Merry festives to you.
DeleteYes, here it is, December. And it's going to fly by at least for us in the US, because our Thanksgiving was so late this year. Just a few weekends until Christmas!
ReplyDeletehow can this be?:) Xmas is sooooo close.
DeleteWhat an adventurous and of course, delicious month you've had! I bet every time you use those chillis you'll think of that eventful journey home! Love the little vase - so cute and the rice topper looks delish. Thank you for hosting IMK this year and keeping us all connected. Hope all your Christmas wishes come true and that you have the most delicious festive season xx
ReplyDeletethank you Sammie. Yes it's a busy time of year. I love seeing everyone's posts all year. Such a lovely community feeling. Enjoy the festive season xx
DeleteYour seasoned salts, umani everything, sounds great. Karen (Back Road Journal)
ReplyDeletethanks Karen.
DeleteAnother lovely month in your kitchen, Sherry! The rice pudding with rose petals….mmmmmm. How is the Nigel Slater book? I’m intrigued.im so impressed with all your canning work. And why do we call it canning when we use jars? Oh, the things that keep me awake at night… Davdi (C&L)
ReplyDeletethanks David. Yes i am enjoying Nigel's book. Lots of lovely snippets from his life. Yes i love preserving :) Lovely to see the filled jars after all the hard work - today I made mango chutney. that was an extravaganza!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and festive roundup to wrap up the year! I love the variety of things you’ve been creating in your kitchen, from the tomato relish to the pickled chillies, so many vibrant flavors!
thanks Raymund. Wishing you a wonderful festive season.
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like a bad place to get a flat tire! Glad it all worked out. And that coffee cup? I bet it brings a smile to your face every morning! I love it!! Merry Christmas, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteyes all fine in the end! Merry christmas David!
DeleteAs always you seem to be living an interesting life - though I am sure you could do without the flat tyre - but sometimes these dramas give you an insight into a place you would not have otherwise! Love all your home made goods - a little jealous of the myer lemon cordial because our little myer lemon tree is still putting more effort into battling the citrus lime miner than fruiting! I love furikake - just wish I remembered my little bottle of it more! And that cup is gorgeous - looks a bit axel scheffler. Also love love that keen as mustard vase! Have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to many more IMKs in 2025 - thanks for keeping the flag flying!
ReplyDeletehi Johanna, yep life is interesting. and busy esp. this time of year. The little cup is by Alison Lester, children's author (and illustrator I think). Yes the mustard vase is so cute. Thanks for being part of IMK. Happy festives!
DeleteYour Keens mustard vase is the best, and I haven't seen those Mingle salts anywhere else. They look great. I made some lemon cordial too, did you put tartaric acid in yours, or use Cream of Tartar? I couldn't find tartaric acid anywhere. I need to make some more, it is so refreshing. Have a wonderful Christmas Sherry and hubby, it's been fun participating in IMK, hoping to publish mine soon. x
ReplyDeleteyes it's so cute pauline. Nat is so clever. You can buy Mingle online or from Coles and Woolies these days. Nope no tartaric acid in my cordial - just a simple syrup and the juice. Have a wonderful festive season and thanks for being part of IMK.
DeleteI have missed the cutoff, but here is my post for December. Have a wonderful Christmas. I'll have to look for that Nigel Slater book, I love his Christmas one. As usual, lovely things in your kitchen.
