Phew, glad that June has left the building. It has been a right stinker, let me tell you. And crazily wet here in sunny Brisbane. Normally winter is our dry season, but we've had heaps of rain over autumn and winter this year. The backyard never seems to dry out. And the local wildlife is a bit miserable about the whole thing :=)
(See below for the evidence.) She stayed there all day, trying to sleep. At one point, we heard this loud thud - the poor baby had fallen asleep and fell off the beam! She came back a week later, to rest up for the day. Thank heavens she was okay after her fall.
 |
| Look at her poor bedraggled tail; she stayed there till dusk |
(Oops, I've added this photo twice. Never mind! She's worth a second look, down below.)
In My Kitchen:
 |
| there was more beetroot-pickling (thanks Roving Haggis for the recipe) |
 |
| and crazy fermenting cabbage (thanks neighbour for doing the pounding) |
 |
| and we had a poor bedraggled wee possum getting out of the rain (oops! again) |
 |
| of course there was chocolate, and hot chocolate mix |
 |
| and Greek citrus salt and olive oil with mandarins |
 |
| more herbs and spices from Herbie's |
 |
| delicious! Rhubarb - is she a fruit or a vegetable in your mind? |
 |
| I bought another wee spoon! Carved from Tassie tiger myrtle, by Carol A. Russell |
 |
| Emma Bridgewater ceramics from Mr P. (for my birthday) |
 |
| a cookbook from the cuz! |
 |
| the curveball! a gorgeous wooden scallop by John Woolrych |
(Just a quick FYI: I will be having medical treatment in July most likely, so I will schedule a brief IMK post just in case I am not up for it later on. So please do add your link in August! It will cheer me up!)

thanks Mae. Your post added now.
DeleteYou always have so many interesting stuff in your kitchen! Why are wild animals miserable? Because of lots of rain?
ReplyDeleteyes the poor possum was very miserable and spent two days on our front porch.
DeleteAww poor possum. Wishing you some drier days.
ReplyDeletethank you Anon.
DeleteGlad you are into July -- still June here for another few hours. Love your new spoon, and the wooden scallop shell -- for a moment I thought it was a Godiva chocolate -- the kind filled with hazelnut praline.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best for your procedure -- hope it's not anything serious!
~ David - Cocoa & Lavender
thank you David. Sadly it is quite serious but i am hoping for the best.
DeleteYou always have such fun things! Love the spoon! Good luck with everything….
ReplyDeletethanks Mimi. Yes i will need much good luck.
DeleteThat wooden spoon has such a beautiful grain, and colour. Enjoy the new cook book, and holding positive thoughts for your procedure.
ReplyDeleteyes isn't it lovely? Thanks; i will need them.
DeleteNaturally love the scallop and the spoon but am now worrying about you . . . bestest and then bestest again . . . thinking of you!
ReplyDeletethanks so much Eha. the news is not good but i have my fingers crossed that the treatment will help.
DeleteWell, you most certainly did not need that . . . don't worry ahead . . . try to take it day by day . . . thinking of possibilities ahead PHYSICALLY does make matters worse . . . small steps will get you there . . . tons of love . . .
DeleteHard times indeed lately. Thanks for your well wishes x
DeleteI love those ceramic bowls Mr. P got you for your birthday! Stay warm and dry over there...there is absolutely nothing worse than a cold, rainy day. I think the local critters would agree, too.
ReplyDeletehe's clever isn't he? Yep the critters were not happy .
DeleteLove the wooden spoon and all of the other treats that found their way in to your kitchen this month. Here's hoping July is a much better month for you both and that everything goes smoothly. Prayers and hugs!!
ReplyDeletethanks Lori.
DeleteYou had a possum, we had armadillos in our yard! Our weather in June if the worst, but things will become more tolerable as we move to the end of July. I love that artichoke bowl and the wooden scallop. Your kitchen goodies are always wonderful to see each month! Thanks for hosting, take care.
ReplyDeletewow armadillos!? fabulous.
DeleteIntrigued by that rhubarb concoction, but everything is wonderful this month! thank you for hosting my favorite virtual get-together!
ReplyDeletelovely to have you Sally!
DeleteSo much to love here - although sorry to hear that June was a wash out (in every way!) and about your medical adventures - sending all the healing vibes your way. I definitely think rhubarb is a fruit, now I want to try and make some relish. I really miss all the Herbie's delights - so good! And how cute is that spoon... And of course the possum. Wishing you well - see you on the other side xx
ReplyDeletethanks Sammie. Can't wait till this year finishes dishing up the awful stuff.
DeleteThere is just so much to love here -- a recipe, wonderful fun things to eat and cook with. But the winner is your little opossum. Cute as can be! Sending all good wishes for your procedure.
ReplyDeletethanks Jeanie. Yep such a cutie.
DeleteI adore that scallop, spoon and the Emma Bridgewater ecramics. All the very best for your treatment this month. Take care and quick healing.
ReplyDeletethank you Jo.
DeleteSorry to hear that your June has been rough. And best of luck for your procedure Sherry! Look at that cute lil possum. It just needed a place to rest :)
ReplyDeletethanks Lorraine.
DeleteJuly feels like it arrived dragging a soggy June behind it, possums and all. Your poor little porch‑guest looked absolutely done with the weather, and honestly, I don’t blame her.
ReplyDeleteand still the damp continues here. uurrgghh
DeleteInstead of being wet and cold we are seriously hot and humid! I don't even want to begin thinking of cooking!
ReplyDeletehaha... that is our summers for sure - hot and humid. but we are having an oddly wet winter this year!
DeleteWas sorry to read about the poor possum Sherry (and your weather). We've had a wet summer here so far in Scotland (typical Scottish weather). My family in Melborne aren't too positive about possum's as may years ago one got into their house and cause a lot of damage!
ReplyDeleteyes she was very sad that wee possum. Yes indeed they can cause a lot of damage if they get inside!
DeleteI have that cook book! Recommend the Chaja cake! Delicious!
ReplyDeletethanks Marg!
DeleteThat poor possum!
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been too hot to go out! I did buy myself a new spoon rest, totally unnecessary, and against my decluttering mission, but I felt like it!
yes she was very damp and miserable. Still cool here!
DeleteI wasn't sure what animal you were showing us, so glad you shared the possum twice. Happy birthday! Hot chocolate is always good on a cold, miserable day.
ReplyDeleteShe was sad. And yep hot chocolate is a winner on a cold day!
DeleteYour new treasures are lovely. Poor little possum!
