Hoping you can join us here for In My Kitchen this month. I don't have a whole heap to share, but just wait till next month. I bet I have heaps of glorious stuff from Tassie, which is known for its fabulous produce, and fish and oysters and cheese and chocolate ...
Definitely no snow in my kitchen, but here we have:
DIY parsley paste |
I had a bunch of parsley looking much the worse for wear, so had to think what to do with it. Huh, lightbulb moment - stick the bunch in a glass of water for a couple of days to refresh, then zap it with salt, pepper and olive oil to end up with a paste that I could use in all manner of things like stir-fries and stews. Fabulous, and so thrifty!
Spanish salt |
I love trying all sorts of different salts; smoked being my fave of all time. Gave this one a go; not my fave, but it's okay, just very salty:=) Of course you say, but I mean it is just too salty for me. Too sharp, too bitter. Never mind, I shall make use of it.
jam and marmalade |
Stonewall Kitchen is an American brand, so even though it goes against my mantra of buying local, I sneak these into my kitchen. And after giving myself a good talking-to, we devour them with pleasure.
silver ladle and cake server |
My bestie MM, she of the finger-slicing episode, gave me these lovely silver items for my birthday. So pretty! And don't forget 'useful', always a fave attribute for everything I buy or get gifted. Can you see me reflected in them?
that's mine - the chocolate heart |
OK, some explanation needed. The choc heart cake in the foreground was definitely in my kitchen at one point. I made it for the Love Your Bookshop Day bake-off recently. I didn't win, but all the cakes went to a half-way house for their arvo teas. So I felt very chuffed that I could help others, as well as have a lot of fun in the making and baking.
Wanda and Fiona judging the cakes |
Here we have the judges, Wanda and Fiona (the Avid Reader Bookshop owner). They judged mine first. Eek, nail-biting.
Well, that's about it for me this time. Please join in my lovelies; I'd love to see you here. (the link ends on 13th Sept, fyi.)

Sorry your beautiful cake didn't win the contest, but I'm glad the whole event was for a good cause! Looks yummy to me.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Tasmania. I've at least read a little about it. All American kids in the past and probably now too are at least familiar with the Tasmanian Devil named Taz in Loony Toons. I have no idea if they realize that's a PLACE!
best... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
that's funny about the tassie devil. i bet you're right, that the kids don't know it's a real place (and a real animal). it's going to be cold - well for us it will be. it's 21C here today and some ungodly temp like 8C down there. brrrrr.
DeleteTry using the salt, very sparingly, in your baking. I will be posting my IMK blog on Wednesday. Enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeletehi tandy. yep i will do that with the salt. looking forward to your post. brrrr it's going to be cold down there. cheers S
DeleteHave a great time in Tasmania Sherry! :D I put my parsley in a glass of water and cover it with a plastic bag and it lasts for ages.
ReplyDeleteMy bunch of parsley was so limp I almost chucked it! Good to get use out of it. I felt like a frugal hausfrau:)
DeleteThat silver ladle is a stunner Sherry. Sending waves of ladle envy.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a lovely thing isn’t it? A wonderful gift from my friend.
DeleteThanks for hosting Sherry! I skipped a few months whilst taking a break from blogging but enjoyed catching up on your kitchen this month. What a great idea for the excess parsley.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy Tasmania!
Thanks Kari. Very different weather down here from sunny brisbane. Cold and crisp and clear. Love it!
DeleteHi Sherry hope you are enjoying Tassie! Your kitchen is looking great - that parsley paste sounds genius (for the fridge rather than the freezer???) Your cake looks great and generous too! And I was amused at salt being too salty - makes me wonder if how many shades of salt there are! I hope to join in - but am a bit slow this month because my computer died yesterday (or hopefully is just ill)
ReplyDeleteHi Johanna
DeleteTassie is great as always. We love it! Yep the paste was in the fridge tho I used it very quickly. I think you could put it in the freezer tho. Hope your computer is working soon. Would love to see you in the kitchen :). Cheers S
Hi Sherry - the computer gods have shone kindly on me and I got it working again yesterday so am now catching up on blogging and all the rest! Have linked up my Sept IMK post
DeleteThat’s excellent Johanna. Good on you. Cheers S
DeleteHave a great time on your trip and I can't wait to see what you bring back with you. I absolutely love the silver ladle and cake server...beautiful. Even though they are not local to you, Stonewall kitchen was a local to me when we lived in New England and I haven't tried a product of theirs that I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen
DeleteIt’s fabulous here in tassie and rather cold which we love. It’s a great change for us Queenslanders. Trying not to buy too much stuff! Thanks for joining in. Cheers sherry
Have a great holiday! I would have given your cake a blue ribbon for certain! Love the birthday present (and happy belated)! Linking up tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Debra. Great to have you here at IMK. Cheers sherry
DeleteHi Sherry. I really enjoy reading Francesca's 'in my kitchen' posts, so I thought I'd give it a go too, since this is a very eventful month in my kitchen/parents' garage. Next month, not so much-just vino! I love your heart cake. I think you should have won! Ciao, Cristina
ReplyDeleteThanks Cristina. Always wonderful to have a newbie for IMK. Welcome!! Cheers S
DeleteI'd love to visit Tasmania! Lucky you. :-) And you have some seriously cool stuff in your kitchen this month. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi KR
DeleteThanks! It is wonderful here in tassie. Cheers S
Hello Sherry. I have been watching the In My Kitchen event for a while and decided to join in. I'm Tina and I live in northern Florida, I hope to bring something from our area of the country next month. Looking forward to seeing your post next moth. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina. Nice to see a new face here at IMK. Will look forward to your IMK post. Cheers S
DeleteThanks for hosting the link up. I may need to do the same thing with my parsley as the giant spider that was in my basil appears to have trampled it on his journey. I love the silver ladle and cake server. So gorgeous! Have a lovely trip to Tassy.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been one hell of a spider Jen! Thanks for joining in. Yep tassie is great. Cheers S
DeleteThe blood orange marmalade sounds lush. Have a good holiday. I'm joining in with IMK too.
ReplyDeleteThank you shaheen. Lovely to have you here again. Cheers Sherry
DeleteLovely stuff in your kitchen, I like to look of that parsley paste. Have fun in Tasmania! I can't wait to see your souvenirs. I have also added my link here.

hi laura
Deletethanks heaps for joining in IMK. I've managed to sneak you in:) lovely to have you. cheers sherry
Those cakes look good as does your pesto and the jams. Shame the smoked salt wasn't delightful, the jar looks so pretty, but live and learn and you can keep the jar forever.
ReplyDeletehi Merryn
Deleteyes it is a gorgeous little salt jar and i shall indeed use it in the future. thanks for dropping by. cheers sherry
Hi, Sherry! Sorry to comment belatedly, but such is life these days. I already edited my obsolete September IMK post into next month's and will add to it (and join you) with new kitchen finds. (Orange marmalade is already in the mix!) For some reason I end up "copying" you... last month it was kitchen knives LOL, despite my intended originality. :) We're on the same wavelength, xo. I miss you and "the crew" and I'm looking forward to catching up with y'all soon.
ReplyDeleteIt will be wonderful to have you next month Kim, but you are welcome to add a link this month. just email me the details as i can add them in later to the linky. I have my cunning ways:) cheers S x
DeleteSherry, I love that you have your cunning ways :) -- you're the hostess with the "most-est!" -- much appreciated for extending the deadline. But, I'm gonna stick to the plan... I need to do some recreational writing (and chocolate eating, lol!) for the rest of this month, plus spend some much needed "downtime" -- HOME time! -- reading everybody else's before I jump in again. October, here we come! That said, I can't believe I didn't comment on YOUR IMK post (other than alluding to orange marmalade... argh.) A thousand pardons! Your parsley paste was a genius "save", that smoked salt made me swoon, and your silver gifts and star-studded cake were lovely. Thanks again for being YOU!
Deletethanks so much Kim for your very kind words. i look forward to next month's post. thanks again! cheers sherry
