June? No! Hey, it's my birthday month! How the heck did that happen? And what a month it will be - medical stuff, hubby stuff, going away for my birthday for a bit stuff, getting my licence renewed stuff, and the stuff goes on. But that's good, isn't it?
Hubby has almost finished his radiation treatments, so hopefully that will be it for the while. You know, it amazes me that you have to pay for parking at the hospital, tho' the radiation is free, so there's that. And what is it with hospital parking? You need to sell off a kidney to pay for it. Anyways, enough whingeing from me! Let's get to it:=)
 |
| those matcha Pocky and the tiramisu mochi - so good! |
In My Kitchen:
 |
| you know I can't resist a wee fishy dish :) |
 |
| and another memoir-type book with cooking |
 |
| I made a quadruple chocolate on chocolate loaf! |
 |
| gorgeous! Fab Nigella L. recipe |
 |
| a recycled platter from Banish using plastic bread tags - so clever! |
Sorry, I know it's hard to make out, due to the tablecloth being nearly the same colours!
 |
yep, another tea towel (merch supports the fight)
|
I am a supporter of a protest group who are trying to stop (but clearly in vain, very sadly) the building of a huge stadium for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032. Never mind that Victoria Park was heritage-listed, and an important indigenous site, and it will cost us billions of dollars to build ... I am so furious!
 |
| I stewed up some apples and strawberries |
 |
| and turned them into muffins |
 |
| a huge salad bowl from Banish, also made with bread tags |
This is a really deep bowl! You can get a massive salad in this baby.
 |
| this green glass salt pig is so gorgeous! |
 |
| I pickled some beetroot and French shallots |
 |
| so delicious! |
These are so good. The recipe is from the Roving Haggis, a fabulous Scottish cook. I am going to keep making her version from now on. She was actually here in Australia recently, at a Celtic festival. Wish I had known earlier :=(

It seems just last week we just celebrated Easter...time really flies. Happy Birth Month, Sherry. No idea why all the photos ain't available for me.
ReplyDeletesorry angie. I don't know why the photos would not come thru!
DeleteThe bread tag items look amazing. Glad to hear Mr. P is nearly done with treatment. It's so wrong to charge for parking at a hospital. The two here don't charge but in town they do.
ReplyDeleteyes i think it's dreadful that patients have to pay!
DeleteWe are still travelling so time in the kitchen is a bit off and on. Anyway, I love the sardine tin dish - so fun!
ReplyDeleteyes i've been reading your posts about your time away!
DeleteLove the dish with the sardines...what fun!
ReplyDeleteme too! :=)
DeleteLove the gorgeous pottery but wonder where you fit all of it in in your home . . . hmm > you are lucky enough to have collected so many interesting pieces . . . ! Love the anchovies dish and your pickled beetroot - but then I could not go a day without having some of both :) !
ReplyDeleteyes it's a wonder to me too Eha! Somehow it all fits in, tho I do give some of it away as gifts. Oh that beetroot recipe is going up on the blog this month - it's so good! Keep warm.
DeleteOh, mind was not in gear! Happy, happy birthday when it arrives - is the date a secret 'cause we are both Geminis - I seem to be having to write a different number on the 10th ! Same as Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh and Judy Garland if you are old enough to remember her :) !
DeleteMy birthday is the 23rd so a Cancer baby:)
DeleteHappy Birthday month - enjoy the Festival of Sherry! I know what you mean about hospital parking, it's the same here in the UK - such a rort! Love all the new additions to your kitchen - the salad bowl is so cool and made out of bread tags no less! Everything looks so delicious, especially that chocolate loaf. I love a good Nigella recipe! Hope you have the most marvellous month, have a great birthday and cheers to Mr P finishing treatment. Yay!
ReplyDeletethanks Sammie. Yep gotta love Nigella's recipes!
DeleteHappy birthday 🥳
ReplyDeletethank you!
DeleteHappy Birthday in advance Sherry. We've had our share of hospital parking. Ours doesn't have pay-parking but many do and it is a spur in the side for many. Lovely series of photos, yummy food and collectibles. I enjoyed them very much. Special thoughts for your dear husband and to you both for a very happy June.
ReplyDeletethanks Denise for your kind words. There is a lot going on for us this month but here's hoping it will be a great one.
DeleteYes indeed, wishing you a great one :)
Deletethanks again!
DeleteSo glad to hear Mr. P is nearing the end of his treatments -- what a relief that will be for you both. Lucky for you, the treatments are free. Here it is the opposity and I would much rather pay the parking.
ReplyDeleteFun stuff as usual... the wee fish dish is my fav!
yes it's great to see the end in sight. It just seems so crazy to have free treatments but to pay exorbitant parking fees!
DeleteHappy Happy Birthday! It is always fun to see what you have enjoyed and brought home each month. The combination of apples and strawberries has me intrigued. And that bread tag bowl is amazing. Your chocolate desserts look lovely, I am having a fit over the fake chocolate that is hitting the shelves here in the U.S. Take care and enjoy June!
ReplyDeletethanks Melynda. Fake chocolate? Oh dear. I hate crappy chocolate! Have a good month.
DeleteThat quadruple chocolate on chocolate loaf is gorgeous !!! Who wouldn't like a bite of that. I love your little anchoive dish. so cute Sherry. Happy Birthday ..
ReplyDeleteoh yes it is a good cake. Thanks!
DeleteHappy advanced Birthday Sherry! I hope you have a great time :) And yes news about Mr P too!
ReplyDeletethanks Lorraine. How did another birthday come so quickly?
DeleteHappy Birthday to you!! I hope you enjoy your get away. I'm glad Mr. P will be finished with his treatments soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read that book. It isn't available here in the US until fall but I have it in my cart.
Everything looks so tasty in your kitchen as always.
I hope June is a wonderful month for you!!
Thanks for the kind comments
DeleteIt's my son's birthday month as well.. and while you renew your license he will be getting his! A learner's permit but still, can't imagine him behind the wheel.
ReplyDeleteYou bake the best goodies..
Thanks Hena
DeleteMy birthday month too! Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteAnd to you!
DeleteHave a great birthday and celebrate your hubbies end of treatment. Time flies, I don't know where it goes either.
ReplyDeletethank you Gerlinde. Yep time absolutely thunders on :)
DeleteYour muffins look delicious and I love your "wee fishy dish"! When I had radiation, the treatment AND the parking was free. It certainly adds up otherwise :(
ReplyDeletethank you! Yep that is great; at least the treatments are free here!
DeleteHoly Moly - you've been busy this month, Sherry! Look at all those delicious food photos. :-) I'm glad to hear that Mr. P's treatments are coming to a close...but don't even get me started on stuff like the parking and cost!! Happy early birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI like to keep busy David :) THanks!
DeleteWhat a fun post, Sherry! Happy Birthday month! Celebrate a little bit every single day. And good news that the radiation is over. I hope it's successful and you can get back to "life" as you know it! All your food and cakes look just delicious. And you always have the most interesting spices and condiments!
ReplyDeletethanks Jeanie. Have a great June.
DeleteHappy birthday month to you! Here’s hoping the getaway is restorative, Mr P’s treatments wrap up smoothly, and the hospital parking gods show some mercy for once. Your kitchen is as full of colour and character as ever, and those Japanese goodies! I love them.
ReplyDeletethank you Raymund!
Deletegosh it feels like not that long ago that you had your birthday month and now it's rolled around again, how can we already be almost halfway through the year ?
ReplyDeleteso glad to hear that hubby's treatments are over, and your comment about the parking reminded me of someone I met at a party once. she had a nasty skiing accident and was in hospital for two weeks, she told me about the excellent health care in Switzerland except when she checked out she got a bill for all the coffees she drank !!!
take care and have a great June xx PS. one day when I grow up I will get into pickling like you...
i know! how did that happen?:) That's funny about the coffees! Ooh yes pickling is fun - and so tasty. Happy June!
DeleteSherry, sending lots of positive vibes for hubby. Wishing you a quieter, peaceful July. Happiest of birthday wishes to you.
ReplyDeletethank you Velva!
DeleteHi Sherry, what a few weeks you have had. I hope your hubby is recovering well. You have picked up some lovely items, I love the recycled bowl and the green salt cellar. I'm sorry to hear about the new stadium and Victoria park, I hope they reconsider it. We are fighting the land overuse battle here in the Texas too, but it's data centers. It's so sad to witness and important to fight, for sure. The muffins and that chocolate cake.... oh my! I recently tried my hand at some pickled beets too, they are so good and I eat them with everything. Delicious!! And Happy Birthday to you!!
