Why am I telling you this? Cos I had planned to put up a photo of Amish carts in Lancaster County PA; see that's where the L came in for this month's travel linky:=). But I came across this photo that I couldn't resist of me freezing my buns off at the Thanksgiving Parade in Lansdale PA where we were staying with friends of friends.

Yep that little red pixie in the foreground is me. I had so many clothes on I could barely move. I was actually crying with cold! I think it was about minus 10, and we were sitting in deck chairs on the footpath to watch it. The little girls were in tiny fairy costumes with tights and tutus. OMG!! Such fortitude, though they seemed to think nothing of it. I have never been so cold in my life, even in the snow in Central Park in December. (No, my nose wasn't that red - it's the scanner).
That looks and sounds like the kind of cold that get's into your bones. The only cure is a hot chocolate and a roaring fire! Thanks for sharing.

DeleteBrrr...I can relate as I grew up in Nebraska and Kansas in the very middle of the US and the winters there are just as awful! I will never live in that type of climate again!

our friend in Philly said she grew up in south dakota and slept in an outdoor porch with snow falling thru the screened windows - no glass!

ReplyDeleteI can attest to the Pennsylvania cold. This Winter was unseasonably mild as compared to some of them. Brrr....and this year it seems Spring is really be stubborn.
Where I live in PA I have the same problem with the Amish buggy's. They can be so dangerous. Tomorrow there is a Amish Style Wedding Buffet and Auction at one of the local Amish farms which means there will be buggies galore!

DeleteWe have been to parts of Pennsylvania but Amish country is yet to be visited. You do wonder how people live in places where 80% of the year there is snow and below freezing temps. It's not for me!
