Did everyone have as mad an April as we did? There was so much happening: birthdays galore, medical and other appointments, short stories to write for competitions, blog posts, and general living.
As Mr P. is the President and I am the Vice-President of our local Historical Society, we attend two meetings a month, and do the various bits and bobs that go along with that. And of course, we had gone away at the start and end of the month, and I had the bronchitis which knocked me out of things for a couple of weeks. How the heck did we get everything done?
I usually bake Anzac biscuits for Anzac Day (25th April), but as we were going away the next day (actually on Anzac Day), I decided to give it a miss this year. I have sometimes made 5 or 6 dozen biscuits! They hold a service just near our local Historical Society each year, which is widely attended, so we headed there, then headed south for our weekend away (in honour of Mr P.'s birthday).

In My Kitchen:

a few more goodies from the local Japanese store |
Love the Pikachu furikake jar. And it's so tasty! The Kit-Kats were 'adult' flavour apparently, which meant little to no sugar. I liked 'em!

Easter chocs from Coco88 |

and a few more chocs, and some local honey |
![]() |
oh yes, another cookbook! Donna's latest |
![]() |
more herbs and seeds from Herbie's Spices |
![]() |
and some goodies from a new Asian store |
I thought they were little lollies top-left, but no, it's some sort of Rubik's cube, and the tiny beads are meant to zip around all over the place. Mr P. and I could NOT get them to move at all :=) But happily, there were some wee lollies lurking in the orange cardboard packet.

I love Gewurzhaus goodies! |
We visited their shop when in Melbourne recently. It was heavenly. I bought some real cinnamon, as normally I buy Dutch cinnamon which is of course cassia rather than the real stuff.

I bought some coffee pods at a new (for us) coffee shop on the Southside |
![]() |
and I made citrus cordial for Mr P. |
![]() |
and I made hummus with lots of garlic! |

and the curveball: I bought her at the Logan Art Gallery - a ceramic lizard Artist: Alysen Moloney |

First, happy belated Birthday to Mr. P!! Donna Hay is a favourite too :-))
ReplyDeletethanks Angie.
DeleteWow, you've certainly had a busy April! I really hope your May will be calmer. Those no-sugar KitKats sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think May will be just as busy!
DeleteThat cake looks heavenly! Also all the chocolates.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting IMK.
best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
thanks Mae!
DeleteOoh that passion fruit butter cake looks so good! Was it nice? And happy birthday to Mr P!
ReplyDeleteit was a great cake. they do make good ones. Thanks - i will tell hubby :=)
DeleteSounds like April was an absolute whirlwind, but you powered through like a champ! I'm in awe of how much you managed, meetings, travel, baking (even if not this year), writing, and still squeezing in some excellent foodie finds. That Pikachu furikake is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThis year is flying by! Hold on to your horses for May :)
DeleteA very tasty month indeed - despite the bronchitis. I love Gewurzhaus - last time I was in Sydney I visited their store at my old local, Castle Towers. Here's to a tasty May.
ReplyDeletethanks Jo. Yep May is on the run already ...
DeleteA happy belated birthday to your darling husband - health and happiness for the year! Favourites ? I told you before I loved your lizard and I'll never say 'no' to hummus . . . but I keep on going back to 'Herbies' spices . . . methinks they are marvellous and I still so enjoy the quarterly Newsletter sent out! Lovely post of mostly Aussie offerings . . .
ReplyDeletethanks Eha for your support and comments.
DeleteIt does sound a busy April! I also like the sound of the 'adult' Kit Kats.
ReplyDeletethey were pretty good. thanks for dropping by.
DeleteYou DID have a busy April! But it also sounds like a good one. Your cake is pretty! I didn't realize (or remember, if I knew) that you two were both part of the historical society. That sounds very interesting to me! I'm glad you're recovered -- now stay well!
ReplyDeleteit was indeed busy but fun. Yes the hist. soc. keeps us busy, not that we need to be even more busy. Hubby still works fulltime which means about 60 hours a week!
DeleteOK I'm commenting from my phone let's see how it goes , will be anon. Hope you are feeling a lot better Sherry, hope you've had your flu vacc. Love that lizard, and committee's can keep you busy, I'm updating my Dads service record on the War Memorial site. Love Herbie's spices. Happy birthday Mr. P, always nice to have a cake. My IMK on its way. Pauline (Happy Retirees Kitchen)
ReplyDeleteyay your comment worked. Flu vax on the horizon next week.
DeleteYou did have a very busy April and I'm glad you're feeling better. All of your treats look delicious. I love all of the new items in your kitchen this month. That cake looks so good. I hope May is an even better month for you and your family!!
ReplyDeletethanks Lori. It was a great cake; so glad i bought it in.
DeleteI like the sound of the kit kat. And we are so lucky to get real cinnamon here as that has a much better warmth to it than cassia. Love your new art piece.
ReplyDeleteTandy (Lavender and Lime) https://tandysinclair.com
yes the kit-kat was very 'grown-up' :) Yep i love that lizard too.
DeleteYou accomplished a lot I’m amazed. I hope you’re feeling better and that May will bring you a much needed rest.
ReplyDeletethanks Gerlinde. I think May is steaming ahead :)
DeleteOur April was bonkers too! Hope Mr P had a fab birthday and that you're fighting fit. Your Easter chocolate looks so good and I that hummus looks thoroughly dippable. Yummmmm!
ReplyDeleteyes thanks feeling much better now, and hubby had a great birthday. Homemade hummus is the best!

DeleteYour April sounds like a fabulous time was had - and all those goodies!! Yum yum 😋
ReplyDeletethanks anon!
DeleteI use to buy Donna Hay's cookbooks but I found them to be too big to physically manage comfortably. I do like your lizard )
ReplyDeletetoo big? interesting. i don't mind as long as they fold out flat when i'm cooking :)
DeleteI cannot believe another month has just passed. I think I saw your post "in my kitchen April 2025" just like a few days ago - and here we go again haha. Interesting items; I'd like to try that low sugar Kit-Kat.
ReplyDeletei know what you mean Ben...

ReplyDeleteand thanks again.
DeleteAnother wonderful month in your kitchen, Sherry. Love all the chocolates and I bet your citrus cordial is delightful.
ReplyDeletethank you. Mr P. does love my cordial!
DeleteI'm laughing at the image of you and Mr. P sitting there trying to figure out the rubix cube/candy holder. :-) Sounds like April was busy, but at least the nasty bronchitis is behind you. Onwards and upwards!
ReplyDeleteyep it was funny:)
DeleteDefinitely a busy April! I am not holing out much hope that your May will be less busy ( smile). Hope you are feeling back to normal after a moment with bronchitis.
ReplyDeleteyou're right there. May is busy! ...
DeleteMMMM that Easter hot chocolate is singing to me, as is your lemon cordial. Sorry to hear you were sick, that really sucks. In solidarity with your rubix surprise, S' friend (a professor of maths of course, from Cambridge too) gave G a toy panda on a keychain that turned out to be a rubix panda. I started playing with it and now I can't get it to look like a panda again! thanks for hosting and have a great May
ReplyDeletethanks DofSD! All better now, thank goodness. Had to giggle about the panda :) You too re a fab month! Thanks for joining in again.
DeleteI actually had a rather quiet April and am hoping for a more exciting May... !
ReplyDeletehere's wishing you a fab May, Frank!
DeleteOooh look at all those yummy treats!
ReplyDeletethanks Hena for dropping by.
DeleteWhat makes a hot chocolate "easter"? i LOVE the white chocolate bunnies.
ReplyDeleteThe easter spices, as in hot cross buns! Yep those bunnies are so cute.
DeleteYou sound like your April was as crazy as mine - but I didn't have bronchitis which sounds awful. I hope all those nice Easter treats were a nice treat for when you recovered. Easter and ANZAC day so close together made it crazier (and school holidays) - I too did not get to bake ANZAC biccies. That furikake jar is sooo cute, even though I am not a pichachu fan. Those fancy easter chocolates are so gorgeous - I could not believe the price of chocolate but the koko black chocolates looked so tempting in the stores - love that artwork on the koko koala billabong tin. Herbies spices, Gewurtzhaus and home made cordial are the best. Are there good shortcuts in the Donna Hay cookbook - shortcuts is the only way I get through life lately. And I see you sneaked in a lovely wood spoon.
ReplyDeletenope no particular short cuts but some good recipes. Yes May seems to be quieter so far - fingers crossed!
