Eat the Street Lismore 2015

Yep another food festival!  I have a feeling Mr Pickings probably thought he had been dragged to enough of them but being the good hubby he is, he agreed to come along. Well, the fact it was in northern NSW, one of our fave places for a break was the real inducement I am sure.  We love the wide rivers down there, the incredible greenery and the amazing arty, creative people who inhabit the area.  And how lucky are they to have several regional galleries, including the Margaret Olley Centre within a short (ish) distance of each other.  I think Lismore is doing its best to come out fighting to take back some of the arty/foodie glory, so this food festival was a way to give a yell about its attractions.  So ok it was fairly small, and it has a long way to go, but it was fun and they were really trying.  And hey, it was the inaugural event so there is plenty of time to make it better next year! We had just had a massive lunch so more food was not really on our horizons, except visually.  We wandered up and down the street taking in the atmosphere, and enjoying the happy vibe.  I love the way the local Council has cleverly encouraged graffiti artists to make real public artworks around the town, decorating the brick walls and creating amazing laneways for all to enjoy.  The Lismore Regional Gallery currently has the finalists and winner of the Archibald Prize on its walls, which was the other reason we headed down that way. And not to forget a visit to our dear friend Brooke from Red Door Studio, the amazing ceramicist/potter.  So all in all, we had a lot of reasons to head there last weekend and any time.

We had such a fab time.  We stayed in Ballina on the river where all you here is the water lapping and the birds crying.  I was really lucky and saw 3 dolphins and 2 sea-turtles on our last morning.  We came home feeling really refreshed, and eager to head on down again ASAP.:))

  1. Happy locals, relxed atmosphere, $5 plates! - what's not to love? I really like that corner of the world too so timing it with the touring Archibald was very clever. I'm sure it will continue to grow and you'll be able to say 'I went to the first festival'
