My Sunday Photo 27 December 2015

making cranberry relish for Xmas lunch

For some obscure reason, supermarkets have not been selling frozen cranberries at Christmas time as they used to.   So when hubby spied a bag at our local shop, he scooped them up and rushed them home to our freezer.  Once again this year I was able to make cranberry relish for our Christmas chicken and ham.  (And turkey when I get around to defrosting it and baking it).  Don't get me started on the evils of supermarkets and their home brand only items etc!!

Hope everyone had a fabulous and happy Christmas season.  See you in 2016.

  3. This is probably about as festive as a photo can get, love the colours here. And you're right, cranberries seem to have fallen a bit out of favour, I wonder if there has been a failed harvest or something? Merry Christmas to you and yours :)

  5. Isn't that strange? Is there a cranberry shortage or something?

  7. You were lucky to find those cranberries. I remember when they were readily available every December so we could all make cranberry sauce and relishes. But now??? I had to drive nearly an hour away to get some direct from a wholesaler. But it was worth it - homemade cranberry sauce/relish can't be beaten. You must share your relish recipe, Sherry! xx

  8. Hi Sherry, I love cranberry sauce, but have never made it myself (never seen fresh or frozen cranberries here). I bet your homemade relish complimented your ham and chicken nicely.

Wishing you all the best for 2016.

    xx

    1. It is great with ham. I didn't put much sugar in this year so it was quite savoury. So glad to find cranberries this year!
