In My Kitchen - May 2017

Hi guys!  Thanks for joining me in my new role as host of IMK. Thanks to Celia from Fig Jam & Lime Cordial for starting this happy corner of the Web, and to Maureen Orgasmic Chef, and Liz of course from Bizzy Lizzy's Good Things who is handing over the baton to me.  I hope to see lots of eager foodie bloggers joining in the monthly feature.

Let's get started.  As you know if you have participated in IMK before, the host grabs the link that you have placed in the comments section of her own IMK post, and copies it into the sidebar. This allows everyone to check out who has posted this month.  I am going to tackle this a bit differently.  The sidebar is no more:=)  (N.B. I have added the sidebar back for a short time as some people have had problems seeing the links.)

There will be 3 options for adding your link:

1. Adding via the link button at the bottom of this post.  Instructions can be found at the top of this page, under Add your IMK link

2. Comment on this post, providing a link to your post so I can add it to the linky list below

3. Email me: sherrym1au@gmail.com, with your link or any queries about the link process

The preferred option is number 1 as this gives you the power to add your link when you have time.  Well, up to the 10th of each month that is.  I will keep adding the links for you via your comments or emails, but hopefully down the track, everyone will use the link.  (I have added a link here to the Add your Link page as I have just noticed that you can't see it on devices!)

It has been a really busy month chez Pickings, so I don't have a huge amount of new stuff to share.  Mr P. has been my IT go-to man, and has set up the link for me.  Phew, it took us both a while to get it all sorted:=)   So let's have a look at a few of my latest acquisitions over the last month or so:

Flanders Field Poppy cup

I bought another one of these on our very recent trip to Canberra.  I have one at home already, and find them the perfect size for my morning coffee.  I had my bag frisked and labelled before we could go into the War Memorial.  A ceremony (not just the usual one) was taking place, so they were taking precautions.  It was a bit odd, but I worried a bit 'cos they only checked one of the pockets.  What if I was a crazy person, not just the eccentric I am?

a glorious bunch of pink roses from Mr P. - just for

a plate rack designed by Mr P.

I thought I'd introduce you to a corner of my kitchen.  When we first moved to this house, we needed more space for plates so Mr P. designed and had made this lovely wooden rack which sits on the wall near the kitchen sink.  I have always loved it!

looks tasty

Our Tassie mate Miss TPT sent this interesting package up to Mr P. for his recent birthday.  Haven't opened it yet!

nope I didn't make it

Look at this glorious Black Forest Cake!  As I mentioned before, we've had busy times lately in the old ancestral so I decided to take the easy path and buy in a cake.  Oh my, it was so delish.  Chester Street Bakery - you are wonderful.

chilli oil and Iranian saffron

The chilli oil was a gift from my cousin, and the saffron came from an Iranian friend's mum who brought it over as a gift to me.  It smells like heaven.  It has the colour and aroma of magic!

lastly we have a pizza cutter

So cute; such a sweet gift.  And I still haven't opened it.  Next time I make pizza ...

Well, that's it for this month's IMK.  I hope you have all found your way here, and that it all goes swimmingly.  Let me know if you have any problems joining in.  And I would love to see you all next month!

  1. Hi Sherry, Love the sound of that pepper berry salt. The Flanders Poppy cup and saucer set is also very fine, making a cup of tea more special. I clicked on your logo button which didn't seem to take me anywhere other than back to the top of this page. When my post is ready, I'll just add a comment here until I work out how this button works. Good luck with the IMK role- I am sure you will enjoy it.

    1. Hi Francesca
Thanks for dropping by. There is an active 'add your link' button at the bottom of my post which is open for the 10 days of the IMK roundup. No worries if it's a bit intimidating at first. I will add you to the list once you comment to let me know it's done. Cheers!:)

  2. I really like your plate rack - clever. I wish I had one for my photoshoot plates so I didn't have to sift through a pile to find the one I want. Your poppy cup and saucer are really beautiful too and how lucky to get roses!

  4. Hi Sherry, thank you so much for taking over the hosting of IMK. I'm truly grateful to you. It was a delight to meet with you both in Canberra recently. Now to your post... I love the cup and saucer from the AWM, and that plate rack is something else! I need one too, but have no space for it! Nice work on the linky app! That should make life much easier for you as the host. My post is up, love, will add it now. xx

  5. Hi Sherry, Love those pink roses! You are very luck with Mr P just bringing you flowers for no other reason than "just for". Great dish rack as well and I love how you've put all different sorts of plates there - makes it more interesting than a boring complete matched set. Although, I am skeptical of that pizza cutter. Many times these novelty gadgets are not up to job. Report back once you've used it!

  7. Hi Sherry, thank you for taking the time to take over as host of the ever popular IMK. Look forward to joining you each month. Here is my link as I have been finding it difficult to comment here as for some reason I cannot get the first letter in the link to return to a lower case letter... so not sure this will affect my link up. Blogspot and Wordpress issues I would guess. Anyways I am not very tech minded.

  8. Sherry, congrats on your new role as the next "hostess with the most-est" of IMK! (Will add my link as soon as it's up 'n' running... give me a couple o' minutes... half a day, lol?!) Wanted to see what's up in your kitchen first and link back to you properly. Still oohing and ahhing over your plate rack (way to go, Mr. P!), your beautiful Flanders Field cup & saucer and all the meaning it holds -- besides your java -- sorry you had to get "frisked"), the gorgeous bouquet from your hubby, and cute pizza cutter. Loved your sea salt, Black Forest Cake, and tasty ingredients, too!

The lovely lowers and cake looks like celebrations ahoy - hope you are busy for good reasons :-)

Hi Sherry - wanted to let you know, I was unable to link up on the link as it is not showing on my blog as saying 'not allowed on this website', and when i click on the link, it takes me to you. I am only saying this as I had not had anyone visit from IMK linky and it takes me to your most recent blog post - not a linky. I wonder if you can add it please, as i cannot

    3. hi shaheen
sorry about the problems. i have added your link to both the linky at the bottom of my post and to the sidebar which i have temporarily re-instated. the links on the sidebar should now be working, and the linky does work- i.e. when you click on the small photos but I know some people have had trouble with it. one of those tricky things between wordpress and blogger maybe?

  29. Sherry, I'm just popping back (Happy Mother's Day, by the way, xo) to tell you that I LOVED your linky concept for IMK. The visuals were enticing and I didn't have any problems accessing the posts, even with my low-tech computer and questionable "rural" satellite signal connection, LOL! (It even made me think about bettering my photographic efforts for next month's IMK.) :) Do what works best for YOU. I'm praying that the "glitches" work themselves out, and I thank you again for hosting this month's delightful forum. Ya done GOOD, kiddo!!!

Cheers sherry xx
