In My Kitchen - October 2023

This post is a bit hurried my friends, as I am writing it before I head off to more tests, and my first cataract operation.  At least it's only day surgery.  But as I'm not sure how much vision I will have for a while, I am trying to catch up on everything before it all happens.  I know I keep saying it, but what a year!

My kitchen was pretty darn busy in September - lots of baking and cooking, and socialising.  Our housemate has now moved out to her own place after several months here with us.  My brain is still telling me she's downstairs, so it's going to take a while to get used to her absence.  We miss her!  Anyway, onwards and upwards.  Gotta send off another short story before the op.  Have a great month, dear friends.  Hoping to see you all with an IMK post!  'See' being the operative word for me :=)

In My Kitchen:

I zapped some red chillies, and bagged up some smoked chicken for the freezer

Yep, another trip to the Japanese store!

I made strawberry muffins for a friend's house clean-up working bee

that fermented hot sauce with miso is a winner!

and yes, more Herbie's spices! and a cute bookmark

I made a chicken and veg. curry which lasted us for days :=)

I bought a replica of a Viking Age bowl from Grimfrost

here's the curveball: Lady Bob by our mate Chainsaw Newton!

So that's it for this month; come and join us, global friends.  And hopefully the world will be looking very bright for me - literally! :=)

  1. Good luck with the surgery — I know quite a few people who have been thrilled at how much their vision improved from the procedure, and I wish you well with the same result.

  4. Oh Sherry - truly shall be thinking of you and hoping the eye issue will prove to be uncomplicated and 100% successful. I shall have to go find out next month whether my fairly sudden sight deterioration is due to the same cause! Pretty anxious ! Have to put in a Herbies' order myself . . . am not enthused about the 'other mob'! And I wonder where my closest Japanese store is . . hmm!!! . . . best . . .

  20. Good luck with your cataracts and busy times. It is incredible it is october but I am in denial despite a daughter intent on starting Christmas decorating asap. Love that little cup with the fermented hot sauce with miso (double fermented then?), and Lady Bob makes me smile. Lots of herbs and spices - do I see a lot of chives? And hope you have your horned helmet for that authenticity when you use your viking bowl :-) - just saw I didn't choose my login - blogger so annoying with comments lately - Johanna @ https://gggiraffe.blogspot.com/

  22. I'm a bit late because of a trip away and stuff happening, however always enjoy reading your post Sherry, and hope your recovery is progressing well. I'm all for making a large curry or stew which lasts for a few days, and takes the pressure off in the kitchen. Lady Bob must keep you smiling, and as always all the interesting herbs keep us cooking tasty dishes in our kitchens. I might be a bit late with my IMK, I've got a few things on this week but working on it Sherry. Take care.
