April? How the heck? ... Oh my, Mr P. is having another birthday already! As are a few friends; I guess all the parents were keeping warm in those cold Winter nights nine months beforehand:=).
March was interesting here in old Brisbane town. We waited (and waited) for the cyclone to hit, and I had a prolonged bout of bronchitis. So these days, they just let you get over it in your own good time, without medication. And it takes a bit of time to get over it fully - third week already ...
And speaking of medication, I don't want to get political but what's with all the childhood diseases coming back? Mm, you know what I mean. Time for our 'flu jabs soon! (Which my lungs will appreciate.)

our local brook which often floods, and did its best during the cyclone! The footpath is in the foreground (under water) |
In My Kitchen:
 |
I made another batch of pickled beetroot |
 |
and I bought lots of chocolate when we were in Melbourne |
 |
and I made more chutney - nectarine this time |
 |
paper napkins and a Yayoi Kusama fridge magnet from NGV Melbourne |
 |
yep I bought 2 different kinds of hot choc! |
 |
and some sweets |
 |
I bought this gorgeous little Japanese pourer/jug |
 |
foodie gifts from friends! |
 |
fridge magnet on the fridge :=) |
 |
and the curveball - a mango-wood sculpture of a coelacanth by our mate Chainsaw (Christian) Newton |

So much lovely chocolate! I forget that you are heading into winter as we look forward to Spring. Do you have a milk frother for your hot chocolate? I just bought one to use making Chai tea.
ReplyDeletethanks Sue. Yes we enjoy a mug of hot choc in winter. I think i do have a frother somewhere ...
DeleteGlad you got over bronchitis before winter blooms fully! I love the Japanese jug.
ReplyDeletethanks for your comment Melynda. I am a huge Japanophile, if that's a word :)
DeleteYes, April is here! For us it means we’ll soon have a few local vegetables, though real produce is still kind of a dream. And for you, the growing season will soon be winding down. Somebody is upside down!
ReplyDeleteAnd there’s already a self-advertiser with no real IMK content — though you are often tolerant of marginal offerings.
have a good April…. mae at maefood.blogspot.com
yes those winter veg. are coming in. I have deleted that first post as definitely not an IMK. I used to email those people in the past, but they got so shirty at me!
DeleteAnd there’s ANOTHER link to a highly commercialized no-IMK post!
Deleteyep I've got rid of a few already!
DeleteI'm glad you're on the mend. It looks like it was a delicious month in your kitchen. I haven't tried black garlic powder but need to. We do love garlic in our house.
ReplyDeletethanks Lori. Yep we love garlic too. No vampires in this house :)
DeleteThat Japanese jug is so lovely! My husband would love some chocolate :-))
ReplyDeletethank you Angie.
DeleteAll that chocolate looks soooo good and I love your little Japanese pourer. The personalised labels on the jars are fab - you're very clever. Hope you feel heaps better and very soon! And Happy Birthday to Mr P!
ReplyDeletethanks Sammie. I can't resist anything Japanese :) Yes feeling much better now, tho a bit tired still. and thanks for his birthday wishes.
DeleteI love that jug, too! And nectarine chutney?? To die for!!!
ReplyDeletethanks Anon.
DeleteLots of interesting purchases...and great sounding chutney.
ReplyDeletethank you Barbara.
DeleteOh…the sight of the hot chocolate makes me want a cup. Too late tonight though!
ReplyDeleteHot chocolate always goes down well :)
DeleteI'm sorry to hear your bronchitis has not cleared. I suffered for decades with it and bed rest is the best solution. A full week in bed! Enjoy all the sweet treats you bought xx
ReplyDeleteTandy (Lavender and Lime) https://tandysinclair.com
Getting much better now thanks Tandy.
DeleteYou are always so prompt, busy or unwell or not - good/onya! Actually, still studying natural medicine (at my stage in life!) and knowing what damage antibiotics can do, perchance your doc knows what he is doing even tho' the length of your problems is debilitating! Actually, I love your fridge magnet and the Tasman sea salt as well as that beautiful fish I know means heaps to you . . .
ReplyDeletethanks Eha. Good to have a deadline that keeps me on the straight and narrow :) Yep love the coelacanth!
DeleteSo glad you're on the mend. I am glad you're getting your flu shot too and yes I do worry about childhood diseases coming back too. Black garlic powder? Never heard of that but as a garlic lover I bet I'd enjoy it.
ReplyDeletethank you Astrid. Yep always a good idea to get the flu shot. Haven't tried the black garlic powder yet - sounds intriguing!
DeleteMy sister and a nephew were born late March so it was hot and heavy here... :)
ReplyDeleteHehehe ...
DeleteLove that fridge magnet Sherry xx
ReplyDeletethanks Anon :)
DeleteYeah, it feels we had Christmas just yesterday, but here we go - it's April already! And so many delicious items in this post; I certainly need to get my hands on this cappuccino chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteThe year is flying by!!
DeleteHonolulu cookies are really good and I love cups with spouts. They make cooking life easier!
ReplyDeleteI do love a jug, and i have so many!
DeleteYour amazing mango-wood sculpture is in very good company Sherry. Sorry to hear you have been so crook, it's no fun during the wet weather either. Our doctors seem to prescribe steroids to recover from anything serious these days, if all other options have been exhausted. There seem to be so many bugs around these days. So much lovely chocolate. When do you eat it all, ha, ha. We don't eat it before bedtime anymore, not good for a good sleep. I also love the frig magnet, so great you saw the Yayoi exhibition in Melbourne. Take care my friend. Hope it is cooler here and in Brisvegas by Easter.
ReplyDeletemy shelves are overflowing with artwork for sure! and i love it. getting much better now thanks just very tired these days.
DeleteIt is ALWAYS a good month for chocolate. Nice purchases. Love the magnet (I adore Kusama... her light rooms are phenomenal) and the napkins are so pretty. Excellent job on the preserving. I need to do moire... I have gotten away from it. I am so sorry you continue on with the bronchitis... I cannot believe they don't give you an inhaler. And please don't get me started on the ridiculous vaccine issue here. Ugh. Mark and I just had our scone COVID booster. Count me in on all the jabs! Take care -- I hope you are feeling up to snuff soon, at least well enough to celebrate Mr. P! David -- C&L
ReplyDeleteyep chocolate is a winner! I am feeling so much better now thanks. Yes it's horrifying that a parent would think not protecting your child from potentially awful diseases is an okay thing!!
DeleteYou always have the best looking foodie gifts when you show your monthly round-ups, Sherry! Also, I heard that chocolate helps you get over bronchitis. Just sayin'. :-)
ReplyDeletethanks David. Definitely! Chocolate cures everything :)
DeleteApril already?! Time flies when you’re pickling beetroot and battling bronchitis (hope you’re finally on the mend!). Your kitchen adventures are always so charming, nectarine chutney, two types of hot chocolate, and that stunning coelacanth sculpture? Goals. Also, totally stealing your beetroot pickling secrets. Here’s to warmer days and fewer coughs!
ReplyDeleteyes hard to believe it's april already. Yep the beetroot is worth pickling :)
