Do I say it, my friends? How can it be September already? Okay, onwards ... This is going to be a huge month for us - my cousin coming to stay, events, meet-ups with friends and family, short stories to write and send off, blogging - and oh yes, I am giving a talk to the Historical Society. But all good fun of course. And we won't even talk about Mr P.'s health, medical appointments and all that fun stuff!
Spring is definitely on the way - there was a young carpet python in our tree the other day. So gorgeous! She comes down from the hill just near our house, I guess to find food. But it's a dangerous trip across the road to us!

that's her head in the middle of the photo! |
In My Kitchen:

my cousin gave me this in June for my birthday - cute! |
 |
can you believe the cabbage plate is melamine? :=) |
 |
cute stuff from the new Asian store near us |
 |
another bottle of EV olive oil |
 |
some seasonings |
 |
another Dreamfarm gadget |
 |
and another cookbook/history book |
 |
I bought a Birka/Viking glass tumbler from Grimfrost |
This is a replica of a glass found in a grave in Birka, Sweden; dated from the 9th century. I do love Viking stuff! - even though these were traded from other lands into Viking territory. Grimfrost are in Sweden; and they supply movies and shows like Game of Thrones and The Vikings.
 |
yep, even more olive oil (shared with a friend) |
 |
my word! Sooo delish! (from the Japanese store, not the Asian store) |
 |
cute storage container (Rosella is an Aussie company) |
 |
ceramics (blue mug and wee vase by our friend Brooke at Red Door Studio |
 |
and the curveball - small artworks by Naomi Mears |
These were bought from the Incognito Art Fair; all of the small artworks are $100. You buy them not knowing who the artist is till it arrives on your doorstep. These two are by Naomi Mears, who won the Moreton Bay Outdoor Art Prize this year!

I love that cabbage plate! I had a ceramic salad set in a pattern like that and my gosh it was so heavy! I see you got more beautiful pottery, which I would love to do myself. And that python, reminds me we had a huge rat snake that discovered our egg coop, such a surprise when I gathered eggs that day! Thanks for hosting, and have a lovely month ahead.
ReplyDeleteme too! Thanks for joining in.
DeleteI'm always amazed at all the new and interesting items you have in your kitchen. I especially like the Viking glass. Karen (Back Road Journal)
ReplyDeletethanks Karen. Yes i am very fond of my Viking stuff.
DeleteWell it looks like you had a number of lovely additions to your kitchen this month. I just found out about these types of measuring cups yesterday and they are awesome. Happy Spring to you!! And I would never be able to get used to creatures like that in trees. :-)
ReplyDeleteI finally succumbed to the Viking glass as it was not cheap, mostly in postage from Sweden!
DeleteYou have some cool stuff this month, Sherry. I love the ceramic cups and that cabbage dish is nice too.
ReplyDeletethanks Angie. I am fond of the cups and the plate :)
DeleteWhat fun! It’s amazing what beautiful dinnerware they’re asking in melamine! However, I could do without your s***es.
ReplyDeleteHttp://www.chefmimiblog.com
thanks Mimi. amazing really. but i love the python - she is gorgeous.
DeleteLovely purchases Sherry! I have seen those cabbage plates but in porcelain but melamine would be handy for picnics!
ReplyDeletethanks Lorraine. The plate is quite heavy too; even the counter lady wrapping it up thought it was china i think, as she wrapped it so carefully!
DeleteWe have a busy month coming up as well. I hope you enjoy the month. I wish our spring were yet to come. Fall is lovely but winter is not far behind,
ReplyDeleteSpring is here already!
DeleteYou have had quite a month! I hope all is well with Mr. P.
ReplyDeleteThe snake...yikes!
we are still in the throes with hubby; fingers crossed all goes well. I love the snake!:)
DeleteThat dreamfarm measuring cup is amazing. Hope they bring them to South Africa. And I am intrigued by the bone broth. Hope it has a decent flavour. Lovely ceramics in your kitchen this month.
ReplyDeleteTandy (Lavender and Lime) https://tandysinclair.com
Do you get Dreamfarm in your country? I could try to mail one to you if it's not too dear to post.
DeleteAnonymous Eha arriving on the scene to admire such a plethora of interesting stuff this month. Rather naturally, coming from the Baltics, would love to see the Viking recipes as food 'my way' tends to be a tad boring ?! The fish soups et al might be interesting ? Am laughing - had a huge and lazy carper snake living on the next-door property - well, one did not really want to drive over him but oft had to find a way around 'cause if he was right across the road, he just looked at you and closed his eyes !!!
ReplyDeletehi Eha. Thanks for dropping by. I must get stuck into the VIking book.
DeleteCannot believe it's September either! We're getting ready for cosy autumn vibes and I'm here for it - getting dark so early, not so much because it makes food photos a nightmare LOL! Sounds like you have a busy month but pleased you have some stuff to look forward to inbetween Mr P's medical merry go round. As usual everything looks fab but that cabbage plate and spoon deserve a special mention. Also I hope you don't mind me asking but where do you keep all your cookbooks? Do you have a special library room?!
ReplyDeletethe year is sprinting by Sammie! Well as Mr P. says, every room is Sherry's library. there are basically books everywhere in this house :=)
DeleteI still find it so disconcerting to read "It's almost September, spring is coming" when I'm feeling a chill in the morning and see the leaves starting to turn... What an amazing world we live in.
ReplyDeleteI'm also eyeing that cabbage bowl. So pretty!
hehehe funny isn't it how you guys are the wrong way round? Just kidding!:)
DeleteSherry- I enjoyed looking at all your wonderful and interesting things. I actually have some melamine serving pieces that are beautiful too and I love using. Not sure I'd be too happy about a young carpet python slithering down my tree but I don't know much about snakes. The honey jar from your cousin is cute and cheerful. This kitchen share is a lot of fun- thanks for hosting it. Much appreciated.
ReplyDeletethanks Judee. Oh she is a beautiful young python girly!
DeleteI have a bunch of cabbage dishes but they are ceramic and from Portugal. I don't use melamine any more - you know micro-plastics and all :) Love the snake - glad the ones in Michigan aren't that big! Encounter with a couple of blue snakes; one was caught in some fencing (we set it free) and I had to scare one away that was looking at some baby robins!!!
ReplyDeleteyep i know what you mean about plastics. I didn't actually realise it was melamine till i bought it as it is so heavy! Yep i love the python!
DeleteWow, that snake is so cool! (I had an AI-based image description app describe your photo, since as you may know I'm blind.) Happy beginning of spring to you. I'll continue to keep your husband in my thoughts.
ReplyDeletethat's amazing Astrid. I didn't know you could get AI to describe photos for you. Yay! and thanks.
DeleteLike everyone, I love the cabbage plate — is that a Welsh love spoon to the left of it? I love the ceramics, too. Thinking good thoughts for Mr. P. David (C&L)
ReplyDeleteyes i think it's a Welsh spoon. Thanks re hubby. We are fingers crossed here.
DeleteSorry it’s such a scary time for you both.
DeleteBy the way, you are the only other person I know with a Welsh love spoon. I had a pair made by a guy in Wales for Mark’s and my wedding almost 30 years ago — we used them to eat caul that I made for the celebration.
thanks David. Eating caul sounds - interesting :)
DeleteI think that olive oil and the garlic salt should be introduced! Perhaps with a nice hunk of bread next to them? And that snake? No thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteoh but she's a gorgeous snaky gal!
DeleteCheers to a fabulous September! I have to remind myself-spring in Australia-some attempt at Fall in Florida(laugh).
ReplyDeletefunny isn't it? you guys are back to front - hehehe ...
DeleteSounds like a full month.. though I'm sure very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThe honeybee jar is so cute. Those artworks are wonderful.
i hope it's a good one! And for you too.
DeleteHappy September Sherry. We get excited too when we see a beautiful python around the place. We have so many birds in our trees, a few with nests and young chicks, that I wonder if a snake would be game to slither up the trees, the crows certainly aren't welcome. I am in awe of all your beautiful new ceramics, artworks etc. You buy a lot of special olive oil and salt products but I can understand how you use them all, I do. The Rosella container is very nostalgic, love the idea of the Viking stuff and the cookbook would be a great read. The dreamfarm measuring cup is new to me, hopefully I will see one in the kitchen shops perhaps. Hope Mr. P is ok. It's not easy getting older. Have a great month my friend.
ReplyDeleteand to you Pauline. Yep i just can't stop buying oils and salts! It's an obsession, clearly :) Dreamfarm sells 'em online!
DeleteWow, I'm getting kitchen envy - so many fun things.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
thank you Amalia.
