In My Kitchen - September 2022

September??!  What the?!  Yep Spring has sprung already.  Hard to believe, and hard to believe that it has been a year since I had my fall and broke ribs and wrecked my ribcage, seemingly forever.  And then in July this year, I fell again and turned my foot black!  Just coming out of that now.  Several friends have had falls and accidents and terrifying medical diagnoses this year.  Just praying that better times are around the corner, for all of us.

But my kitchen is still going strong!  I even managed to get blog posts up while injured (thank heavens for having a couple of recipes already made).  And Mr P. has helped me with a recipe or two.  Thank goodness for handy husbands who can cook.  He even taught his female flatmates to cook over the years.  We were all pretty much vegetarian back in the day so it was all rice, and cheese, and vegetables, and lots of beans.  Good (if farty) times :-)

In My Kitchen:

a get-well gift from my childhood friend who broke her wrist two weeks after my fall!

a beautiful Japanese whale plate by Minoru Japan

a cute little plate by Donna Sharam called Tiggy & Tiny

more Herbie's herbs and spices (silver coated fennel seeds at front)

pickles and olive oil from Mount Zero Olives

there were many double yolkers! (and even more)

a corner of my pantry - seeds, nuts and quinoa (and beans) and keyrings!

a lovely tumbler from Magnolia Mountain

and the curveball: 'Fishy Express'

Another painting by our friend Catherine from Reason Gallery.  Our walls (and plinths) are happily adorned with many of her artworks.  I keep saying there's no more room on our walls, but somehow I find some!

That's it for this month; please join in everyone!  And here's how:

Tell us about your kitchen (and kitchen garden) happenings over the past month.  Dishes you've cooked, preserves you've made, herbs and veg. in your garden, kitchen gadgets, and goings-on.  And a curveball is welcome - whatever you fancy; no need to be kitchen-related.

The link is open from the first of the month to midnight on the thirteenth of the month, every month.

  1. It sounds like you are on the mend and you will be a new good one when X'mas arrives. Fennel seeds with silver coating are really interesting! I love two small bowls behind the spices too.

  5. The whale plate is great -- I saw lots of whales this month, so I really like whale themed items. I hope you soon recover from all your falls, and regain your balance in every possible sense of the word!

  6. Hi Sherry, finally gotten around to and In MY Kitchen post, which I posted a little early...still getting to grips with the new Wordpress editor. Anyways good to know that you are well on the mend and hopefully stay that way. Great that hubby was such a help and can cook, well done Mr P. Haven't seen a double yolked egg for ages. Always good to have some chocolate in the house and love your Japanese plate too. Have a great September. Moya xx

  8. Hi Sherry! i got my post linked on time this month! Wow, my ravioli would have been gorgeous made with those double yolk eggs. They are hard to find. I love your whale plate-I'm presently working on a fish linocut for a festival on Saturday, so it has inspired me. Hope you continue to recover well. Ciao, Cristina

  9. If I had my druthers would love to be living in Kyoto above all places on this earth . . . have collected art and crafts Japanese most of my life and do love your plate. Am also smiling at the Herbies spices . . . their latest newsletter having arrived just a few days back. Always meant to go to Kerala and Goa with the Hemphills . . . well, it did not happen . . . do hope you keep improving - since I have severe peripheral neuropathy in my legs, I so understand the frustrations . . . best . . .

  10. All those double yolks! Was that from farm eggs, or ones you get in Coles (etc.). I think there is a way they make that happen but I am not 100% sure how.

    ReplyDelete

    1. they were just Coles eggs, tandy. i didn't realise they'd all be double! apparently they put them thru a certain type of light which shows up if they are double yolkers.

  12. Loved reading your post, and I'll really try and send an IMK post soon. We are in Cairns so not as easy when we are away, still lots of time really. So pleased you are feeling a lot better Sherry. 12 months? Can't believe it. I wrote a reply and then lost it so perhaps you received that one as well. Love the Japanese plate, and Tiggy & Tiny are very cute. I'm fascinated by the silver coated fennel seeds, I'm sure you will find something very interesting to do with those. I gather you still aren't receiving my posts. Did you contact Follow.it? Take care, Pauline x

  19. I love the whale plate. Whales are often seen off the coast here, especially during their migration. And I am glad you are recovering from your fall and are on the mend. What do you intend to do with the silver coated fennel seeds? They sound very intriguing. Thank you for hosting us Sherry.

  20. I'm so glad that you are recovering. It's miserable to be hurt.

And what lovely things have arrived for your kitchen!

  21. OMG - chocolate!!! YUM! Lovely plates and condiments. My husband cracked 5 eggs one time and all had double yolks. He did a little research and found that if they all came from the same cartoon and were most likely local eggs, then the eggs probably all came from the same chicken. Weird. Made one hell of an omelet.

  25. Hi Sherry, wishing you well. The Herbies spices make me smile because it always reminds me of Johanna of Green Gourmet Giraffe; and now the double yokes - our neighbour gave us some eggs and nearly all were double yokes - been making quiches. ps Im always leaving it last - https://allotment2kitchen.blogspot.com/2022/09/september-in-my-kitchen.html
